The Victorian Government has announced new opportunities for international student graduates to access the Skilled Work Regional visa (Subclass 491). This initiative is part of the Victorian Government’s effort to support skilled migration to regional Victoria, offering new pathways for graduates to secure visa nominations and build careers outside of Melbourne.

Key Features of the Update :

  1. Reserved Visa Nomination Places for Graduates :

    • In the 2024-25 financial year, Victoria will reserve at least 500 Subclass 491 visa nomination places specifically for international student graduates.

    • These 500 spots represent at least 25% of Victoria’s total Skilled Work Regional visa allocation for the year, ensuring ample opportunities for graduates.

  2. Eligibility for Graduates Living and Working in Melbourne:

    • International graduates who are currently living and working in Melbourne will also be eligible to submit a Registration of Interest (ROI) for the Subclass 491 visa. This is significant because it opens up pathways for Melbourne-based graduates to relocate and work in regional Victoria.

  3. Pathway to Regional Relocation:

    • Graduates can use this visa to move to regional areas of Victoria, contributing to the economic development of these communities while creating a pathway to permanent residency in Australia.

Eligibility Criteria :

To be eligible for the Skilled Work Regional (Subclass 491) visa nomination, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • You are currently living in Victoria.

  • You are holding a valid Subclass 500 Student visa or Subclass 485 Temporary Graduate visa.

  • You have completed an educational qualification in Victoria.

If these criteria are met, you can submit your Registration of Interest (ROI) for Subclass 491 visa nomination.

Registration of Interest (ROI) Submission :

  • Applicants must ensure that all details provided in their Registration of Interest, including visa type and status, are up to date.

  • If you have already submitted an ROI for the Subclass 491 visa and your current visa type is valid, there is no need for further action—your ROI remains valid for consideration.

  • If you wish to update your ROI or apply for a new one, you must first withdraw your existing ROI and submit a new application.

Conclusion :

This initiative from the Victorian Government provides a great opportunity for international students, particularly from communities like the Telugu diaspora, who have completed their education in Victoria. With 500 reserved places and an extended focus on regional migration, this could be a perfect time for graduates to take advantage of these opportunities and secure a future in Australia.
